NHSP Framework Update

Over the past five years, we have worked in close partnership with NHS Professionals (NHSP) to support one of the organisation’s most significant transformation programmes in the past two decades.

This initiative focuses on modernising the IT systems that underpin recruitment, onboarding, payroll, pensions, and workforce management for more than 180,000 staff.

When we were first engaged, NHSP faced significant challenges. Their IT environment was legacy, governance structures were limited, and previous transformation efforts had not delivered the intended outcomes relative to the level of investment. Additionally, outdated systems and infrastructure created inefficiencies across critical functions, while cybersecurity vulnerabilities and legacy platforms posed operational and compliance risks.

Platform Smart initially collaborated with NHSP to refine their transformation strategy, creating a clear and practical roadmap to guide delivery. Since then, we have addressed a number of challenges through a range of activities, including implementing structured IT governance, introducing experienced architects and analysts, and providing expertise in business analysis, project management, cybersecurity, service transition, and development services. We have also supported modernising infrastructure, facilitating data centre relocations, and deploying new systems to improve efficiency and resilience across the organisation.

Our work has been instrumental in enabling NHSP to deliver outcomes that are sustainable, measurable, and future-ready, even in a complex environment. The organisation now benefits from a clear roadmap for the next phase of transformation, underpinned by governance structures that ensure effective delivery. Strong relationships with stakeholders across NHSP have positioned us as a trusted partner rather than simply a supplier.

Looking ahead, we are pleased to confirm that we have secured a new framework extension, covering consultancy, fixed-price work, time and materials, and a service model for ongoing support. This positions us to continue supporting NHSP through the remaining phases of their transformation to a product-led, agile manner. By delivering in smaller, manageable increments, NHSP can realise benefits more quickly, cost-effectively, and with greater flexibility. Our goal remains to deepen partnerships with senior leaders and key stakeholders, ensuring we remain a trusted advisor as new initiatives and opportunities emerge.

We would like to thank NHS Professionals for their continued partnership and trust, as well as all our Associates who have contributed to our ongoing delivery and success. We look forward to working together to deliver the next phase of transformation!
